All around the world people are facilitating Backpack groups. These programs are dropping down into place in many settings including schools, home groups, community centres, youth groups, addiction treatment centres, parishes, etc. We have streamlined the process to make things as simple as possible for you to start facilitating. We also invite you to join our Zoom facilitator's support group.

Facilitator FAQ

How do I go about getting a group started?

The first step is knowing Who, What, When, Where, etc – who do you want to give the program to? Where would you like to see it being implemented, or where is a suitable location to host it? When would you like the group to start, and when should it meet? Etc. The second step, very often, is speaking with the relevant point person. Most likely you will require the collaboration, assistance, or possibly permission of somebody who can get the Backpack going. This could be a principal if you want the program run in a school, a parish priest or pastor if you wish to set up a group through your Church, or the director/coordinator of your local community college, Confirmation program, addictions recovery center, etc. This may not be needed if you plan on running the group in a more informal setting, such as at home or with a group of friends.

Once you have spoken with this person and obtained cooperation you can establish the next steps. This is the time to order your group pack and to let us know your start date so that we can get you everything you need on time.

If you have any questions around getting started, don’t hesitate to contact us. We are happy to support and encourage you, and would love to hear what you’re doing!

What resources are available to help me in running the program?

There are numerous resources available to help you implement the Backpack, including:

- The Group Packs: Full Backpack kit including the Leader’s Guide (a how-to manual with instructions on each lesson, as well as the course overall), the Backpack USB stick with all lessons and audio tracks, a copy of The Map (a companion text to the workbook), 26 posters corresponding to each workbook lesson, and a high quality workbook for each registered participant. The group leader also gets free access to the Backpack Facilitator Course.

- The Backpack Facilitator’s Course: a live Zoom group which covers how to present the Backpack, answers all your questions, and connects you with other Backpack facilitators across the globe

- A document introducing the program (ideal to give to principals, teachers, parish priests, parents, or other relevant parties)

- Promotional material to help you in explaining and advertising the program (e.g., fliers, posters).

- Video testimonies from teachers, parents, principals, Backpack facilitators, and Backpack participants available here

- Written participant feedback

We are also available to set up Zoom Meetings before your group starts, to answer any questions you might have.

How far in advance do I need to order my pack?

We generally ask that you order your group pack 3 weeks in advance of the start date. This ensures we can get your workbooks out to you on time.

If I'm running my group online, can I get the workbooks sent out to each member separately?

Yes! If your group is online we are happy to mail the workbooks out to each member individually. We will need the preferred shipping address of each member 3 weeks in advance of the start date.
